Lyamishi community school 1×3

Lyamishi community school is in kasama District of Northern province

“July 2024 Kellie with her kids Wyatt, Lillie, and Ava along with AJ, Eli, and Edward visited Lyamishi for a night and a day to help build the school.  Although it was a weekend the contractors were eager to help out and get to work.  Alongside with ZSF director Tobias and some locals and the Contractors we hurled bricks from the site back towards the locally made kiln towers of bricks and mud  to be re-fired that were not fired enough.  Lyamishi village was more than welcoming to us Volunteers, gathered by the construction site when we pulled up with dances, songs, and food.  How could we ever give back to such a generous grateful community.  They all have worked so hard hauling water from a distant mud hole bucket by bucket to an on site water stern area built just to hold water temporarily so they could build the school.  With a broken borehole sitting in front of the school building, I wondered if such could be repaired to reduce the constant bucket fetching of dozens of jugs on village womens heads that would quickly be sucked up by every cement batch constantly needed for the mud brick and cement structure.  It was a delight to watch the smiles on the villagers faces, especially the little kids, knowing they will have a better future, knowing someone in the world cared about them, believed in them, and were providing a future of hope and opportunity for them and their children through this structure for education.” – AJ Roth and team – July 2024
