ZSF Celebrates 25 years!!

ZSF Celebrates 25 years!!

The kick off . . .

1st Peggy’s books are free all this year!

Don’t underestimate the power of these little books . . . One sponsor gave a copy to a man he was swimming laps with & another lady gave a copy to a man she met at an art gallery. Long story short, these two became some of our biggest donors (not to count the hundreds of other sponsors who came on board simply by reading). Be Brave Give Away!!!

2nd Visit our YouTube Channel!!             What you give always comes back to you. . .

Susie Curtis took one year & recorded all 25 of Peggy’s stories. Yuliya Love Lynch, Zambia’s Scholarship Fund board member & mother of six small children, bless her heart, is trying desperately to find the time to edit the stories, so keep an eye out, this is one you will not want to miss.

In 2009 ZSF desperately needed to purchase a vehicle, Peggy traveled with her team to purchase the vehicle in Dar Es Salam, Tanzania & drove it all the way to the Zambian boarder. Once at the border the Zambian officials would not let it in, unless we paid them more than the vehicle was worth. ZSF was supporting the Mwenzo secondary school at the  time (located at the border between Zambia & Tanzania), so Peggy left her vehicle at the border & went to Mwenzo to pay for her students there . . . how she met the angel at the school who helped her get the vehicle through is one of the stories worth watching . . .

Now enters Dr Alexander Bruce Reid. Isn’t it interesting the twists and turns life brings? Dr Reid approached ZSF last month with his amazing story.

“May I introduce myself I am a retired orthopedic surgeon in Griffin, Georgia USA.
My great grandfather, Dr. James Alexander Chisholm, was a missionary doctor & preacher in the Mwenzo Mission of Zambia from 1900 to 1936. His Church Clinic & Chapel, which is now at Pediatric Hospital, is still up &  running in this small Mission of Mwenzo.
I am trying to establish a Dr. James Alexander Chisholm Legacy Fund to carry on his mission, in honor of his work to establish education and prosperity in Mwenzo. My focus on Mwenzo is in honor of my Great Grandfather, but could possibly grow beyond this humble beginning.”

Many of you may not know but ZSF partners with several individuals whose vision is the same as ours. Education for Zambia!! ZSF welcomes Dr. Reid & his Legacy Fund (JACL or James Alexander Chisholm Legacy Fund) who will support high school students from Mwenzo secondary high school by offering scholarships to both Kasama teachers college & Kasama School of Nursing.

ZSF is looking for two volunteers one to be over our You Tube Channel and one to edit Peggys stories. Visit our website for full details & other ways you can get involved with our 25th anniversary.

News from our high schools
While high schools in Zambia are filled to over flowing. ZSF is working hard to help. We have increased the number of students we help by 30 more students this year; with prayers & fingers crossed we hope to build a non-profit private school of business where top students can attend such unheard of classes as computer skills (one of the only schools in Kasama to have one computer per student) mini classes taught by USA volunteers, money management, agriculture, art, sewing, everything students will need to be prepared to start a business of their own when they graduate.
News from our Colleges
This year ZSF increased their college scholarships from 124 students to 182 students (now 183 thanks to a wonderful sponsor who jumped up and supported Jennifer Mulenga) The whole country benefits from these efforts as our graduated students could get jobs all throughout Zambia.
And all of our 3rd year nurses were able to graduate and start helping in villages, clinics and more. This is a God sent program as the rural areas are so in need of their expertise.
News of our Micro grant program
Judith Tumiya’s determination pays off . . .
In May of 2022, Barbara Sims our micro grant specialist visited Judith Tumiya, she had received chickens & chicken feed as one of ZSF’s microgrant recipients. It is very damp in Kasama so you must find a place where you can keep a tin of coals going day & night to keep the chickens dry & warm. She tried to keep the chickens dry in a building she had access to from a relative.  It turned out that the building leaked thus the chickens got wet & her food spoiled, she was forced to sell the ones that made it at a very low price. ZSF gave her a second chance. She started with just 10 village chickens, now has more than 30 chickens & ducks, way to go Judith.
News of our building projects

Did you know that, when ZSF builds a school, we only provide the materials?
The members of the school community provide most of the labor. Before materials are purchased, a community meeting is held. Usually, the headman from the village & a representative from ZSF speak & explain what will be expected from the community members. Each family in the community helps to mold bricks for the new school building. Below are pictures from 2 communities where ZSF is currently building schools, Chaisa and Chilbile.
